Nudge-nudge, wink-wink - Northern Advocate - 9 November 2009 - Patricia Slater
Sale goes through as quick
as a wink
Whangarei
District Council Meeting, 29th November, approves sale of ‘Old Boys’
site even though submission ratio and letters to the editor etc show so much
opposition to it.
Some
opposition to the sale was shown by two concerned councillors
but really it was over without too much debate.
Interesting, some of the statements made in the course of the discussion
around the sale, comments such as ‘it’s time for the rubber to hit the road, it’s crunch time’, ‘not pre-determined’, ‘CBD land owners should accept their destiny’ and again in
reference to those with ownership in the CBD ‘if they
approach council we will extend the olive branch’. What did all that mean?
They say
actions speak louder than words! Mayor Semenoff, I would presume the wink you gave at the very end
of the sale process was not for anyone but Mr. Wayne Hill sitting in your line
of sight. What did that mean?
Wink,
wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!
